What is Ipamorelin?
Medically reviewed by the G1 Peptides clinical team · Updated October 1, 2026
THE SHORT ANSWER
Ipamorelin is a synthetic peptide of five amino acids that stimulates the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. It acts on the ghrelin receptor and is described as selective because it has little effect on cortisol or prolactin.
Ipamorelin at a glance
- Type
- Peptide
- Also known as
- NNC 26-0161
- Mechanism
- Selective GH secretagogue (ghrelin receptor agonist)
- Status
- Compounded (Rx)
- Half-life
- ~2 hours
- Route
- Subcutaneous
- Dosing range in the literature
- 100–300 mcg per dose
- Onset
- 1–2 weeks (sleep); 6–12 weeks (composition)
- Storage
- Refrigerated (2–8 °C); use within the pharmacy beyond-use date
How Ipamorelin works
It binds the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, the same receptor as the hunger hormone ghrelin. That triggers a pulse of growth hormone release. Unlike older peptides in its class it does not markedly increase appetite or stress hormones.
What Ipamorelin is studied for
- Growth hormone release
- Sleep quality
- Recovery
Human studies confirm that it raises growth hormone. It was tested for recovery of gut function after surgery without clear benefit, and it has not been approved for any use.
Being studied for something is not proof that it works. Results in individuals vary.
Ipamorelin dosing
Published protocols describe 100–300 mcg per dose, 1–3× daily, given subcutaneous. Onset is typically reported at 1–2 weeks (sleep); 6–12 weeks (composition).
These figures are context from the literature, not instructions. A licensed provider sets the dose and schedule for each patient.
